This site is part of the ‘War or Revolution‘ project that will start by publishing 2 volumes about Bart de Ligt. This anarchist, anti-militarist, syndicalist, feminist, educator, scholar, activist, pastor, husband, father was a complex and layered figure of great importance in the Dutch and European movement of the early 20th century. And is more relevant than ever in the face of the coming war.

My 2 volumes on Bart de Ligt’s ‘Battle Plan against War and War Preparation’ + ‘Conquest in ConTexts’ are at the editors (finally).

Volume 1 is a new edition of his ‘Battle Plan against War and War Preparation‘ that he presented before the War Resisters’ International (in Welwyn, 1934), an elaborate practical proposal on how to prevent war both in ‘peace’ time and in ‘war’ time. Contextualized with other practical texts, proposals and analysis.

Volume 2 is a new edition of his ‘Conquest of Violence‘, written at the end of his life and a summary of his thinking not long before he died of exhaustion – which shows in the tone of this work. This has misrepresented his thought to the English-speaking world. Therefore ‘Conquest’ is complemented by a series of other more ‘theoretical’, historical and topical speeches, pamphlets, articles, etc.
